Articular cartilage has a limited capacity for regeneration and renewal. During life, cartilage gradually wears down and becomes damaged. The wear of articular cartilage can be slowed and its regeneration improved by supplying the joint with the building blocks of cartilage in the form of joint nutrition.
The basic building blocks of cartilage and joint structures are glucosamine, chondroitin and collagen. Other substances that can help suppress inflammatory processes and joint pain include MSM and hyaluronic acid. Glucosamine sulphate stimulates chondrocyte metabolism and slows cartilage degeneration. Chondroitin sulphate binds water, maintains cartilage elasticity and blocks enzymes that damage cartilage. MSM is a source of organically bound sulphur with strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Hyaluronic acid increases the viscosity of synovial fluid, has anti-inflammatory effects and improves mobility. Vitamin C is involved in collagen metabolism and protects cells against oxidative damage.
