Home-prepared diets or B.A.R.F. diets for dogs contain sufficient amounts of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, but may be insufficient in terms of vitamin and mineral content. An example is a feeding ration consisting of meat and bones, which contains a high amount of phosphorus but only a minimum amount of biologically available calcium.
